[The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Colossians 1:13 AMPC
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. / For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, 2 Corinthians 5:1-2 (BSB)
Did you know the believer is living in two worlds at the same time? This is an amazing reality. What are these two worlds? The earth or material world and the spirit or immaterial world. You may have heard them mentioned as the natural realm and the spirit realm. When we are born into this earth we are given a body. Our soul is darkened however and our spirit dead. We have a bias in our nature because of sin.
So how does this work? We are a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body. Our body connects us to the earth world. Our spirit connects us to the spirit world. Our soul is our mind, will, emotions and imagination. Adam was a spirit who had a soul and lived in a body. This is before the separation due to sin entering the world. The Bible indicates that heaven and earth were one. How do we know this?
Genesis 1:1. ‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.’ Most people think this is talking about the creation but this was before any natural creating had taken place. Some think it is a summarising statement of fact. That doesn’t make any sense either as a summary should be at the end of the creation and not the beginning.
For sake of time if you read verse 2 and 3 particularly where we read the earth was tohu bohu meaning nothing nothing and then God said ‘let there be light’ there was no sun, moon or stars to give illumination to the nothingness. So Moses was not talking about natural light but spiritual light here.
This spiritual light was created before the creation itself. On the sixth day God made man and on the seventh day He rested. When Adam opened his eyes he was born into rest. There was no separation between the natural and spiritual realm yet because Adam had not sinned. In the beginning, Adam and Eve were clothed with the light of the glory of God.
When Adam sinned and man fell there was a fracturing of the material and immaterial into two seperate worlds. This caused the first death. resulting in spiritual death and darkness for mankind. Another thing that occurred was man was disconnected from God and connected to Satan. This is why until Jesus death, burial and resurrection everyone was in this spiritual death.
Mankind before Christ could only operate in the natural or sense realm. Only by the Spirit of God coming upon the prophets could God occasionally intervene into the affairs of men by direct invitation. Apart from this, man was plunged into spiritual darkness because of our connection to Satan.
When we get saved, something amazing happens. The Bible says we are ‘brought out of the kingdom of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of His love Son’. Into the kingdom of God who is light. Disconnected from death and darkness and connected to life and light. We are taken out of Satan’s domain and placed into God’s domain.
Notice only the Christian is living in the best of both worlds. The unsaved are spiritually dead and still connected to Satan and are living in the natural realm and have had their minds blinded by ‘the god of this world’ (2 Corinthians 4:4). This confirms that their soul is in the dark about what is truly real.
Furthermore, anything that the world calls spiritual is inspired by demons who can only operate in the soul realm of a person masquerading as a spiritual encounter or experience. For example God warns against necromancy which is talking to the dead because the dead aren’t the ones speaking. Instead, they are familiar spirits who have been in the family for generations pretending to be the deceased.
Conversely, the believer lives in Christ, in the earth and in heaven.
The new creation is the ‘heaven and earth’ of God that we see in Genesis 1:1. Everything that was lost due to the fall has been restored through the finished work of Christ in salvation. We operate from both worlds because we are in the Spirit in both worlds.
Why? Because the Father is the Spirit and everything is in Him. Solomon was right when he said ‘the highest heavens cannot contain you O God much less this temple that I have built.’ This is why Jesus first said ‘I am IN the Father’ in John 14:11a.
Apostle Paul put it this way, If we LIVE in the Spirit we should also WALK in the Spirit. The spirit of who? The Father who is omnipresent. Not only does He live in unapproachable light that no man has seen or can see but we all live and move and have our being in Him. If you are in Christ and Christ is in you then you are living in the best, of both worlds with dual citizenship of heaven and earth. All the blessings of heaven NOW are yours in Christ.
APPLICATION
Become conscious of your heavenly state of being in Christ and recognise that you are naturally supernatural in Him.
