Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
It always amazes me how science and technology are constantly proving the scriptures to be authentic and correct. It’s like man is catching up to God in understanding of what He already declared to be so.
Take for instance the concept that your thoughts create neural pathways that wire the circuitry of your brain. Ever heard of being stuck in a rut?
Although the saying originally refers to a literal groove being made from a cart wheel, studies suggest that it is habitual thought patterns that create these grooves in the map of our brains.
Imagine that your brain is like the hardware or motherboard of a computer and your thoughts are like the software program that causes everything to run effectively.
Thoughts are of the mind, in the realm of your soul which is intangible. What is fascinating here is the software of your mind affects the hardware of your brain and causes it to be altered when subjected to repetitious thoughts.
I suggest to you, this the reason that Apostle Paul by the Spirit tells us to renew our minds with the Word. God who created man knows every part of our physical, psychological and spiritual design.
The manufacturer of a product knows all the capabilities that were built into it. In the same way, God knows how He made us to operate down to the finest detail.
It also shows us the power of thoughts and that it matters what we allow ourselves to dwell upon. Solomon once said ‘as a man thinks so is he.’ Even our emotions and will can be influenced by what we predominantly think about.
For example: if you think depressing thoughts long enough your thoughts will affect your emotions, and in turn, your will. You may even see physical changes with your posture that are a direct result of the depressing thoughts.
You are the character of your thoughts and so therefore you must choose wisely what thoughts you will harbour or entertain.
Conversely, you can imitate God’s thoughts. In Jeremiah 29:11 God says ‘I know the thoughts I have toward you, thoughts of good and not of evil to give you a future and a hope’.
Make up your mind that you will only think what God thinks about you and replace every other thought that is contrary to what He has said about you.
2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to cast down imaginations or refute arguments, theories and reasonings. These are all built up in the mind through what we think.
Only the word of God can demolish mental strongholds and renew or renovate your mind by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones.
New thought patterns however must be based on God’s word to manifest as reality in your life. If it’s true, honest, just, pure, lovely and good news then you should dwell on it. If it doesn’t meet the criteria, throw it out.
What do you think?
APPLICATION
Make a decision to be intentional in what you allow your mind to dwell upon and get into the habit of replacing thoughts that oppose the Word with God’s thoughts in every matter.
