But the righteousness that is by faith says… “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: Rom 10:6a-8 (NKJV)
And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 2 Corinthians 4:13 (NKJV)
Jesus Himself teaching faith in Mark 11:23 said ‘whoever shall say to this mountain’ and concludes with ‘he shall have whatever he says’. Another time Jesus calmed a storm with His words: He said, ‘peace be still!’ In the Genesis account God said, ‘Let there be light and there was light.’
Moses was instructed to speak to the rock the second time to bring forth water. Jesus spoke to a fig tree and it withered which is what inspired the ensuing discourse on faith in Mark 11:22-23.
Joshua was commanded to shout on the seventh day on the seventh time around the walls of Jericho. The scriptures are replete with such stories which tells us something profound about faith. It needs to be vocalised to be activated. This is why the righteousness that is by faith, speaks.
‘I believed, therefore I spoke’ was taken from Psalms 116:10. Apostle Paul used this scripture to instruct the Body of Christ that faith has a voice and it’s yours! The definition of faith is salvation in Christ but even that must be entered into by ‘confessing with your mouth, believing in your heart’ as Romans 10:9 shows us.
Romans 10:10 then goes on to show us what is widely known as the ‘salvation principle’ It says ‘For with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Just to be clear: we are to voice our faith by declaring all the things that belong to us in Christ, whose we are in Christ, who we are in Christ and what we can do through being in Christ and Christ being in us.
A silent Christian is a defeated Christian. Start to speak the word to yourself out loud, declaring what God has said concerning you in your health, finances, career, relationships etc.
The reason we can be so confident to speak words of faith is because He has sent His word and established it through the Living Word, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 13:5b-6 says ‘For He Himself has said “I will never leave you or forsake you”, so that we may boldly say, the Lord is my Helper, I will not fear. what man can do unto me?’
So on the basis of what He has said, I can boldly say! Another version says ‘So that with good courage we say’. God said the same words to Joshua ‘Be strong and of good courage. His word is still speaking to us today. Our correct response is simply to speak back!
