Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV)

let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22 (NKJV)

When you look at the two scriptures above you may be wondering; what is the connection between them? The answer may surprise you but stay with me because we are going somewhere. The common denominator I want us to look at is immateriality. We will touch on this briefly starting with our second verse.

In Hebrews 10:22 ‘Drawing near’ here, is not a physical or spatial thing. We know this because it is using a metaphor to describe having a consciousness of our salvation which is ‘full assurance of faith’ and our ‘hearts sprinkled’ which speaks of sanctification of spirit, soul and body. Don’t forget the Bible is a piece of literature so it follows certain literary guidelines.

Notice the location of the sprinkling: the heart which represents the soul and the conscience which is the spirit.

With all this in mind, let’s now look at Hebrews 4:16. Why is immateriality the thread that joins these verses together? Because the throne of grace is not located up in heaven somewhere in the same way that Jesus didn’t offer his blood in the temple in heaven somewhere. This is what most Christians believe because that is what they have been told. The reason is largely to do with the misinterpretation of scripture.

Question: where was your heart sprinkled? In heaven or in you? I suggest it was you. There is nowhere in scripture that states that Jesus performed this in a place called heaven. It actually says He ‘offered up His blood through the eternal Spirit’. This was done spiritually in you, not the physical spilling at Calvary. Shedding blood was the role of the High priest. Who is Jesus? He is our Great High Priest.

Thronos the Greek word for ‘throne’ generically means to sit or a seat of power for a king. However in relation to the New Testament the meaning implies Christ Himself in partnership with us through His Spirit and administrating his power and authority through us. It brings to mind that ‘we are seated together’ in Him. He ‘sat down on the Majesty on high in us. In our heart.

So where is this throne of grace? It is more a ‘who’ than a ‘where ’ it is ‘Christ in me the hope of glory’. It is Jesus and me in an inseparable oneness that is Christ. This is the reason for having an attitude of boldness in our Christ consciousness. All the mercy and grace is in Christ and Christ is in me.

Are you convinced yet? Study the scriptures for yourself. There is always more to learn. I submit to you, the immateriality of heaven, the throne of His grace is in YOU.

APPLICATION

Study the word ‘heaven’ and ‘spirit’ in the Greek to gain greater insight into these concepts, keeping in mind that the New Testament mercy seat is in the temple not made with hands, which is you.
