INCONSIDERATE OF THE FACTS

Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Romans 4:19 (NIV)

And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. Hebrews 11:12 (NIV)

There are times in our lives when it actually pays to be inconsiderate. Yes you read that right! Let me insert a caveat here before you get the wrong impression: inconsiderate of facts that are diametrically opposed to the truth while exercising wisdom in every situation.

This is the context of Abraham not considering his own body or the barrenness of Sarah’s womb in relation to the promise of God concerning Isaac. Just to balance this out a little, it doesn’t mean that Abraham was not acutely aware of the overwhelming facts. He just wasn’t prepared to accept them over what God said.

Let me add this thought. It is not unbelief to discuss the facts of a situation. To think so is an imbalance within itself. The defining factor here is that after God had said and Abraham believed, he no longer entertained the thought that the facts had any bearing on the circumstances from then onward.

Ever heard someone say ‘you’ve just got to face facts’. For most people, they are ruled by facts. Even Christians can live like this if they are not taught correctly.

Those who believe God’s word can exempt themselves from this category by virtue of being new creations in Christ that possess the life and nature of God on the inside.

When facts are contrary to the truth of God’s word, we are supposed to show the same attitude as Abraham. He was almost 100 years old and Sarah his wife was not much younger. I’m sure he knew his ability to procreate with Sarah and produce an heir was impossible to say the least. But God said!

Maybe you feel like the facts are dictating to you what you know is against what God has said about you. Don’t be discouraged. Rise up from within. Impossibilities are merely opportunities for the child of God. What you need to cure your unbelief is to immerse yourself in the teaching of His Word.

Learn to be inconsiderate of and purposefully ignore the facts when they oppose what God has to say on the matter. Don’t be someone who accepts the facts and their fate along with it as it were. If God has said it and you believe it, then that settles it. Stand on the Word and keep putting it to work until it works for you.

Abraham came to a place in his heart where he was ‘fully persuaded’ that God was able to do what He promised. Don’t stagger at the promises of God through unbelief but be strong in faith giving glory to God. Believe in the good news of all Christ has accomplished for you and take hold of the blessings of eternal life that are yours in Christ.

APPLICATION

Healing, health, soundness of body, soundness of mind, financial abundance etc are your inheritances in Christ. Anything that tries to go against any these rights or privileges, simply refuse to accept them.
