HOLY, UNBLAMEABLE AND UNREPROVABLE

And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: Colossians 1:21-22 (NKJV)

Have you ever heard the phrase that sounds too good to be true? When you understand the good news of salvation you start realising that this statement is no truer than when used to attempt to describe the indescribable gift that is Christ. I’m confident that by the end of this devotion, you will come to the same conclusion.

It’s always important to take note of the tenses. You WERE alienated at some point in time but now you have been reconciled through Jesus body as the sacrificial Lamb of God who TOOK away the sins of the world. This is a present tense reality for all mankind not just believers. John the Baptist said ‘takes’ but that was before the death of Jesus on the cross. After His death the debt of sin was paid in full meaning it was a done deal. Past tense. Whether or not you choose to accept the payment to your life’s account is an entirely different matter.

Let’s dig a little deeper shall we? Jesus has presented us in three ways that are absolutely astounding!

HOLY: the Greek word is ‘hagios’ which means physically pure, morally blameless and consecrated to and for God. A most holy one and a saint. Some people would rather see themselves as sinners but God doesn’t see it that way and His perception is the only one that counts. Because we are holy, the Holy Spirit is able to live in us which never happened in the Old Testament. This confirms that we are holy because a Holy God cannot dwell in an unholy vessel. Just face facts, you are a holy saint.

UNBLAMEABLE: Amomos in Greek means without blame, faultless, spotless and without rebuke. Does this sound like you? Jesus says that it does. He presents us which means He stands beside us and declares this to the Father about us. But what about when I messed up? It was my fault. God says you don’t have any in His eyes. Starting to sound too good to be true right?

UNREPROVABLE: Anenkletos in Greek means to be unaccused and irreproachable. Unaccused means no accusations can be brought against you and this one is my favourite; beyond criticism. No matter what people are saying against you, you live above and beyond it in Christ. Remember what Jesus said reassuringly when they put down their stones and left the woman ‘where are your accusers in John 8:10-11 neither do I accuse you.’ Satan also tries to accuse us but the Bible says he like those stones has been cast down.

We have seen the radical grace of God in action our opening verses and I’m pretty sure some may still may be thinking it sounds too good to be true but that’s why it’s called gospel; good news!

If you are a child of God this is how He sees you. If you are not a believer this is why Jesus gave His life so he could also present you in the exact same way. The biggest challenge in all of this is learning to see yourself the way God sees you and then declaring what Jesus has boldly declared about you.

YOU are holy, unblameable and unreprovable in His eyes. Think about it. What God sees and calls reality is what we as sons of God should see and call real also. When we do this we are transformed into the image of what we see in the Word; our true selves. The Word of God is in itself a reflection the truth of who we HAVE BECOME in Christ with His Holy Spirit living in His holy saints. That’s who the Father sees. It’s time we saw ourselves like Him.

APPLICATION

Study this scripture passage carefully and take time to meditate: ponder, mutter, utter and then shout as you begin to declare the reality of who you are in Christ and who Christ is in you.
