For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:16-17 (ESV)
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:11 (ESV)
Do you know there was a time in dateless eternity past where only God existed? It’s hard for us to wrap our minds around this reality because we all have a beginning. God Almighty on the other hand, has had no beginning. He is the self-existent One. The uncreated Creator.
The Bible says in Psalm 90:2b ‘from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Eternal life therefore is everlasting life with a beginning and no end. That’s the life that only Jesus can give. When creation happened ‘in the beginning’ there were three major things that came into being. Time, distance and matter.
Think about it. Before creation there was no such thing as time, distance, or matter because everything was still within the Father. There was no heaven and no earth. The phrase ‘in the beginning’ connotes the beginning of God’s creation with man as the centrepiece of it all.
Originally in Eden although physical distance had been introduced via creation, spiritually, man had a vital connection with God. It says that Adam and Eve would talk with a voice that walked with them in the garden in the cool of the day.
After the fall of man, sin a foreign object created by Adam’s disobedience entered into the world and the human condition. This sin brought death and a separation between God and man. The consequence of this action put spiritual distance between us and God.
It should be noted that God never separated Himself from us. It was man’s sin nature that caused him to want to hide from God and blame others, rather than take responsibility for his actions. God was always going after man, but man was the one widening the gap.
Knowing that ‘the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life’, God put his pre-creation redemptive plan into action through sending Jesus to pay the price for man’s wages which would end in destruction if not for Jesus.
God in Christ demonstrated His reckless love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. By delivering us out of spiritual death, Jesus Christ closed the distance between God and man and made connecting with a loving Father only a prayer away.
APPLICATION
Become mindful that sons of God are one Spirit with the Lord and therefore, there is no distance in the realm of the Spirit where we now operate in Christ celestially, while living terrestrially here on the earth.
