CHILDREN OF THE WORD

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Peter 1:23 (KJV)

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. James 1:18 (KJV)

When you became a new creature in Christ, something amazing occurred at the point of salvation. You were supernaturally born of the Word. Some people when they read this verse miss the significance of this powerful truth. They think of ‘the Word’ as the Bible and so how can you be born of a book?

John 1:1-2 sheds more light on the subject. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.”

We see two things here. The Word of God clearly is God, and this Word is referred to as a Him. This tells us that the ‘word of God’ in 1 Peter 1:23 is indeed a person. In James 1:18 He is referred to as the ‘word of truth’. In John 14:6b Jesus emphatically declared ‘I am the truth’. So the person of the Word is none other than the incarnate Christ.

Think about it for a moment. If it is true that we are born of the Word and John 1:1 says this Word was God, then we can confidently declare we are born of God. John 1:13 confirms this speaking of the believer: “who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” We were born of God. This is huge!

James 1:18 tells us that it was the Father’s will that we were born of the word of truth so that we could be the first fruits of his creatures. The word ‘first’ here also means ‘best’ so Apostle James is letting us know that those who are born of the word of truth are the best of all God’s creatures or creations. If you are in Christ then you are truly God’s best.

A lot of religious folks think that type of talk is just boasting, but in fact all you are doing is declaring who He has made you when He gave birth to you. It only stands to reason that a Father is the most qualified to speak to His children regarding their origin, heritage and identity.

1 John 4:4 states “You are of God little children and have overcome them because greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world.”

So, we come from God. In other words, our origin is now of God. Therefore we carry all of God’s genetic qualities and attributes within our spirit. We can enjoy the benefits of health, prosperity, peace, soundness of mind etc. All things that are natural to God, are our new nature in Christ.

If you’re a Christian then you are a child of God. Everything the Bible says you are in Christ, you are. Everything that the Bible says you have in Christ you have. Everything the Bible says you can do in Christ you can do. You have a new life now. You are born of the Word!

APPLICATION

1 John 5:4a says ‘For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world.’ Declare the truth of who you are as the offspring of the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ and affirm who you are, what you have and what you can do in Christ.
